Western High School Foundation's History
Our School, Our Why
The Foundation
As Western’s 175th Anniversary approached, Principal Michelle White and a small group of alumnae worked together to frame the formation of an enduring foundation to preserve and strengthen Western High School’s reputation.
They believed the school deserved greater prominence and support. They believed in Western as an important institution more relevant than ever to advance young women to become strong future leaders in our city, country and world.
In March 2020, Western High School Foundation Inc. was incorporated as a Maryland non-stock, non-profit corporation with officers (shown) Carolyn Bodie O’Keefe (WHS’74) president; Luwanda Jenkins (WHS ’80) vice president; Carla Nealy (WHS ’82) treasurer; and Christine McKee (WHS ’74) secretary. Constance Baker, Esq. (’65) served as legal advisor in forming the corporation and continues today.
Since its founding, Lee Kappelman (WHS ’72) Brenda Morant (WHS ’62) and Monique Cox (WHS ’93) have joined the WHSF Board. In Spring 2022, Monique Cox became president of the foundation.
